Fill a rent receipt online — free
A rent receipt is the landlord's written proof that a tenant paid rent — the amount, the date, the period it covers, and how it was paid. Tenants often need them for their records, for benefits or tax purposes, or when rent is paid in cash; some states require a landlord to provide one on request. AttachKit gives you a clean, fillable receipt: it auto-fills your landlord or property-manager details from your saved profile, on your device, and you add the tenant, property, amount, and payment details. Sign it in-browser and give or email a copy to the tenant. Nothing is uploaded, and the file never leaves your browser.

Who needs it: Landlords and property managers who need to give tenants proof of a rent payment — especially for cash payments, or in states that require a receipt on request. Tenants can also fill one for a landlord to sign.

General information, not legal or tax advice
This page is general information about a commonly-used document. State and local law varies — for advice on your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. AttachKit fills the PDF; you're responsible for whether the contents are right for your case.
- Do I have to give my tenant a rent receipt?
- It depends on your state and how rent is paid. Several states require a landlord to provide a receipt on request, and many require one for cash payments. Even where it isn't required, a receipt is good practice and protects both parties. Check your state's landlord-tenant rules.
- What should a rent receipt include?
- At minimum: the date paid, the amount, the rental period it covers, the tenant's name, the property, the payment method, and the landlord's signature. This template includes all of those, plus an optional receipt number and balance-due line.
- Can a tenant fill this out for the landlord to sign?
- Yes. Either party can fill in the details; the receipt is the landlord's acknowledgement that the payment was received, so the landlord or manager signs it. AttachKit auto-fills whichever details you've saved to your profile.
- Does AttachKit store the receipt?
- No. AttachKit fills and signs the receipt entirely in your browser and gives you a PDF to download. The file is never uploaded, and your details stay on your device.
