Is the text really removed, or just covered?

Really removed. AttachKit deletes the underlying text runs and rebuilds the page, so redacted content can't be selected, searched, or recovered — unlike drawing a black rectangle over text, which leaves the words underneath.

Is my PDF uploaded to redact it?

No. The blackout is applied to your PDF in the browser and the file is never uploaded. The optional AI PII-detection is opt-in — only if you turn it on are the page's text spans (never the PDF file) sent to flag likely PII such as SSNs and emails; you can also mark redactions manually with nothing sent at all.

Can it redact a scanned document?
