AttachKit vs. DocuSign — for people who don't need an enterprise plan
DocuSign: The market-leading e-signature platform, used by most enterprises.
DocuSign is excellent at what it does — large-org e-signature with regulated workflows, multi-party routing, advanced templates, integrations with Salesforce and SAP. AttachKit is for the other 99% of signing needs: a freelancer signing one contract, a tenant signing one lease, a startup founder sending one NDA. Cheaper, faster, more private, no signup wall for the recipient.
Why pick AttachKit for these cases
- PDFs stay in your browser — privacy-first by default, not by tier.
- $12/mo flat, no per-user pricing.
- Recipients don't need an account.
- Same AI auto-fill and redaction tools, included.
Side-by-side
A marks the side with the genuine advantage on that row — honestly, including the few where DocuSign wins.
Price
DocuSignPersonal $15/mo (just 5 envelopes/month). Standard ~$45/user/mo ($25 annual); Business Pro ~$65/user/mo.
AttachKitFree: unlimited fill + 15 signed PDFs/mo, forever. Pro $12/mo unlimited (or $120/yr — $10/mo). One flat price, no per-user fees.
Where your PDF goes
DocuSignUploaded to DocuSign's servers (encrypted at rest — they hold the plaintext).
AttachKitNowhere — it stays in your browser to self-sign. Send-to-sign is end-to-end encrypted: the server only ever holds ciphertext, never the key.
Recipient signup
DocuSignRecipient may have to create a DocuSign account to sign (varies by the sender's plan).
AttachKitNever. They click the link, sign in the browser, done.
AI auto-fill & redaction
DocuSignNo — DocuSign is signing-only.
AttachKitAI auto-fill from your saved profile + AI PII redaction, included in every tier.
Multi-signer routing
DocuSignYes — sequential or parallel, with routing rules.
AttachKitYes — sequential, up to 50 signers per request.
Audit trail
DocuSignCertificate of Completion with IPs, timestamps, signer identities — the most battle-tested evidence chain for regulated industries.
AttachKitAudit page appended to the PDF (timestamp, browser, timezone, placement) — deliberately no IP logging. Plus an offline-verifiable cryptographic signature DocuSign doesn't offer.
Enterprise integrations
DocuSignHundreds — Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, Workday, every major CRM/ATS.
AttachKitA focused standalone tool — nothing to provision or admin.
Switching questions, answered
- Is AttachKit legally equivalent to DocuSign?
- For most use cases, yes — both produce e-signed PDFs that are valid under the US ESIGN Act and EU eIDAS (for simple electronic signatures). For 'qualified electronic signatures' (a higher EU tier requiring a CA-issued certificate), use DocuSign or another QES-certified provider.
- Can I migrate DocuSign templates?
- Not directly — DocuSign templates are proprietary. But any PDF you send through DocuSign as a base can be sent through AttachKit the same way.
- Why would I leave DocuSign?
- Cost (cheaper, and unlimited where DocuSign Personal caps you at 5 envelopes/month), privacy (PDFs never uploaded plaintext), and recipient experience (no signup wall). If your org needs Salesforce integration or QES-grade signatures, stay on DocuSign.
